In order to strengthen our drawing skills, 4th and 5th grade had to examine lines again, this time to incorporate them into designs that would fill the outline of their own arms and hands. We briefly learned about contrast and how the simple colors used for their hands would work well with the crazy lines and colors of their backgrounds. Lines are the building blocks of art and as such it is very important to have a strong foundation in lines and line designs, that way students can branch off and use a wide variety of mark making skills as they grow up.
How many different types of lines do you notice in Van Gogh's drawing?
Lines can even be seen in sculptures, these are constructed from lines! They are made from cut paper, however viewed flat they can be considered drawings and hanging upright where you can walk around them(3D) they are considered sculpture.
