At St. James we are currently working on K-6 Original Artworks Fundraiser! Students in all grades create artwork which can then be purchased by parents, family, and friends on products like coffee mugs, bags, and jewelry. It's a great way to support the Arts and St. James School!
Kindergarten and First Grade Jim Dine Hearts
Born in Cincinnati, Dine studied at the University of Cincinnati and at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts before receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University in 1957. As an avid reader, writer and poet, he shares, “language plays a big role in my work and has a big place in my life.” In Dine's work, commonly recognized symbols, figures and objects become metaphors for larger concepts, yet also function as part of his ongoing "self-portrait". -Ohio.edu | For their fundraiser lesson Kindergarten and First Grade students have learned a little about the artist Jim Dine and his heart paintings. We spoke about cool and warm colors and how to use them in our artwork. Students used a tracer to trace the heart shape, then they selected their warm and cool color crayons. They made sure to carefully color all of the white spots on their papers! Students then used a sharpie marker and carefully traced their heart pencil lines to make the line bold and stand out. |
