To wrap up the year students created ink blot creatures in the style of artist Stefan G. Bucher. Stefan creates creatures by using compressed air to move a portion of ink on the the paper and then uses that organic shape as inspiration for a character. He uses drawing pens and pencils to add details and fill in his creations. Students used watered down liquid tempera (easier to clean) along with brushes and straws. We initially brushed on ink then used straws to feather out the ink shapes creating new interesting designs. |
Students worked very hard and carefully, trying to move the ink in different directions and try new techniques without getting paint/ink all over. We used googly eyes after the were finished painting to add life to their designs.
Visit Stefan's Daily Monster Blog for great videos on his process!

Stefan also has an app, called the Daily Monster Monster Maker which costs $2.99 and can be found in the Itunes app store for both ipad and iphone. I have not used this app yet but it does look interesting.
